Olympia Heights dry ice blasting

Olympia Heights calls tend to arrive with a constraint attached, which is exactly where this method earns its keep.

How the work runs here

Nothing about the setup needs a drain, a hookup or a bay. It is also why nothing has to be crated up and driven across town, the work happens where the machine already sits in Olympia Heights.

Nothing of the ice survives the blast. That removes the entire cleanup problem every other method creates, leaving only the deposit that came off the equipment.

Questions from Olympia Heights

Can you come outside business hours?

Yes, within reason. Planned outages are easiest because everybody already knows the window.

What do most jobs look like?

It ranges from a single restoration project to a plant maintenance window. The method does not change much.

Does distance affect the price?

Sometimes, on the longer runs. Either way it is discussed before anyone commits.

What is the first step?

A short description and a couple of pictures is enough to start. An owner rings you back.

Will you travel to Olympia Heights?

Yes. Olympia Heights is inside our regular working area, and the rig travels to the job rather than the other way round.

Do you need anything set up before you arrive?

Access to the equipment and somewhere to park the compressor. No water hookup, no drain and no wash bay.

The local conditions

The heat matters more than people expect: baked-on residue cures harder in a South Florida summer. That is why so much of the work is removing what has bonded to a surface without taking the surface with it.

Light industrial, automotive and marine make up most of what we are called out for. Driveway or plant floor, the requirement is the same: room for the rig and access to the machine.

With no slurry to contain and no media to recover, a confined Miami-Dade County site stops being a problem.

What comes off

The deposits we see most

Most calls involve one of the following. The common factor is a bond between two things that should not be bonded.

  • Paint and coatings

Taken off in a controlled way when what is underneath matters more than speed.

  • Salt and corrosion product

A constant in South Florida. Removing it without stripping the protective finish is the whole trick.

  • Ink and printing residue

Ink and coating on anilox and press rollers, surfaces where changing the texture changes the print.

  • Food residue

Burnt-on product, fat and sugar on processing gear, with no chemical residue left on a contact surface.

  • Grease and oil

The greasy base coat that traps grit and dust. It releases early and takes the loose material with it.

  • Carbon and soot

Baked carbon on a manifold, oven or weld fixture. Thermal shock is exactly the wrong thing for the bond holding it on, which is why this works.

  • Adhesive and sealant

The stubborn film under old tape, or the gasket that tore and left half of itself behind.

How a job runs

What happens once you call

If you have not seen this done before, the process is worth reading once. Nothing below is hidden in a footnote.

  • We blast, then clean up

The ice is gone the moment it does its work. What stays behind is the grease or carbon that came off, and collecting that is part of the job, not an extra.

  • You look before we pack up

If something needs another pass we do it then, on site, while the rig is still running. That is a better outcome for everyone than a callback.

  • You describe the job

Describe the equipment and the mess. If it cannot come offline that changes the plan, so say so early.

  • We look at access and containment

Access drives the plan: reach, siting, masking, and the route the removed material takes off the job. It is the part customers think about least and we think about most.

  • We test a small area

An out-of-sight patch comes first so pressure and pellet size are proven before anything that shows. Soft alloys, older paint and bare metal each want different numbers.

The comparison

Why not just pressure wash it

  • Media blasting

Cuts into the substrate by design. Fine on structural steel, wrong on aluminum, plating, machined faces or anything with a tolerance.

  • Pressure washing

Water gets into everything and has to come out again before the equipment runs. Around electrics it is off the table entirely.

  • Solvent and degreaser

It loosens the mess and leaves its own behind, along with fumes and something to dispose of.

  • Hand scraping

It is the fallback when nothing else is available, and it shows on the surface afterward.

  • Dry ice

The deposit shrinks away from the surface it is stuck to and releases. The ice is gone before it can do any harm.

What happens in your space

We cover what should not be hit before anything gets blasted. It takes minutes and saves arguments.

Dry ice is carbon dioxide in solid form. It is non-toxic and leaves no residue, but it does displace oxygen in an enclosed space, so ventilation is part of the setup rather than an afterthought.

This is not a quiet method. Ear defenders are standard issue on site for anyone nearby.

Surfaces come out cold. On some jobs that means waiting a few minutes before handling, and on others it means condensation as the part returns to ambient temperature.
