Tamiami dry ice blasting

Most of what we clean around Tamiami is equipment somebody cannot afford to damage.

What a job looks like locally

Everything arrives on the van: compressor, hose, operator and containment. That is the practical reason a mobile rig beats hauling equipment somewhere: the machine never leaves Tamiami.

Because the media disappears on impact, there is nothing abrasive left in a bearing and nothing to shovel up afterward. Whatever came off the surface is ours to gather before we leave.

Questions from Tamiami

Do you need anything set up before you arrive?

Just access and parking. There is no tap to find, no drain to use and nothing of yours to plug into.

Can you come outside business hours?

Generally yes. Weekend and overnight work is routine, and the limiting factor is usually noise, not us.

What do most jobs look like?

Everything from an engine bay in a driveway to a production line at shutdown. The process is the same, pointed at a different problem.

Is there a travel charge?

It depends how far out the job is. We will be straight with you about it when you describe the work.

How do we book it in?

Send the equipment, the location and a short description with photos if you have them. One of the owners calls you back.

Will you travel to Tamiami?

We do. The whole point of a mobile setup is that Tamiami is no further than any other stop on the schedule.

The local conditions

Afternoon storms mean equipment that lives outside is wet, then hot, then wet again. It is also why an abrasive method costs you twice: once in the cleaning, again in the finish you removed.

Residential garages and small shops sit alongside the commercial work on any given week. Site type barely matters when the air, the hose and the collection all arrive together.

No runoff and no residual grit, which matters more than it sounds on a Miami-Dade County job with neighbors close by.

What comes off

What this takes off

The method does not care much what the contaminant is, only that it sits on top of something. Here is the usual list.

  • Salt and corrosion product

Salt deposit and the oxidation it starts. Anything abrasive removes the protection along with the salt.

  • Ink and printing residue

Ink and coating on anilox and press rollers, surfaces where changing the texture changes the print.

  • Food residue

Carbonized product, fat, starch and sugar build-up on processing equipment, cleaned without chemicals touching a food contact surface.

  • Grease and oil

Oil film is the layer everything else sticks to. Remove it and half the job is already done.

  • Carbon and soot

The hard black crust on a housing, an oven or a weld cell. Bonded by heat, and the first thing to release under thermal shock.

  • Adhesive and sealant

Sound deadening, tape residue, gasket material and sealant that has cured onto a face it was never meant to stay on.

  • Resin and mold release

Cured process residue on a mold or fixture. The surface has to come out dimensionally unchanged, which rules out anything abrasive.

How a job runs

The sequence, start to finish

There is no mystery to how these jobs run, and no part of it we would rather you did not ask about.

  • We blast, then clean up

One mess instead of two: the pellet vanishes and we take away what it removed.

  • You look before we pack up

A second pass while everything is still connected is free in every sense. A return trip is not.

  • You describe the job

What the equipment is, what is on it, where it lives, and whether it can be shut down. Photos tell us more than a paragraph. If dry ice is the wrong tool we say so on that call rather than after taking your money.

  • We look at access and containment

Siting the compressor, masking what must not be touched, and catching what comes off, settled before the first pellet.

  • We test a small area

Pressure and pellet size get dialed in on an inconspicuous spot before we touch anything visible. Painted parts, soft alloys and older finishes all behave differently, and the right setting on one is the wrong setting on another.

The comparison

Why not just pressure wash it

  • Pressure washing

Drives water into harnesses, bearings, panels and seams, then everything waits to dry. On electrical work it is simply not an option.

  • Solvent and degreaser

Softens the contaminant but leaves a film, fumes and a disposal problem, and attacks finishes you meant to keep.

  • Hand scraping

Labor-intensive and uneven, and whatever you scrape with eventually marks what you are scraping.

  • Media blasting

Abrasive by definition. Anything with a tolerance or a finish worth keeping comes out changed.

  • Dry ice

It is the only one on this list where the media stops existing the moment it has worked.

Before we turn the rig on

The rig needs compressed air, which the truck supplies. There is no hookup to find and nothing of yours to plug into.

Anything nearby that should not be touched gets masked before we start. That is quicker than explaining it afterward.

The media is solid CO2, nothing toxic and nothing left behind, but it pushes oxygen out of a closed room. Ventilation gets planned before the hose is connected.

This is not a quiet method. Ear defenders are standard issue on site for anyone nearby.
